London's wonderful west end is world famous as home to some of the greatest live theatre on the planet. With 38 major venues, there are more than 30,000 seats available on any given night. Theatre goers will find most of London's playhouses close together within 10 minutes stroll of Leicester Square.
Which play, opera, ballet or musical to choose is often asked. The offerings change week by week, so go for whatever takes your fancy is the only sensible advice I can offer. London's west end is really first class so the chances of spending out and then not enjoying yourselves are really rather slim. Theatre Listings are available in the free London newspapers, given away at railway stations. National papers also offer reviews (The Guardian's saturday guide is a great option, or for really in depth coverage, buy a copy of Time Out magazine from a newsagent. Of course, you may want to plump for the classics -see Shakespeare at the Globe Theatre or find out whodunnit when you see Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap which has been running in the West End for almost 60 years.

There are also many excellent restaurants in the area and this is also where many of the city's top attractions are found. Most restaurants offer 'pre-theatre' specials, where they will ensure you are served quickly so that you have time to get to your chosen show. If you are at all concerned about timings, ask the Maitre'De.
